DWP (Driving While Pumping)

Today, out of necessity and not adventurousness, I pumped while driving. I was running late, and it was either this or skip, a bad idea given recent supply worries. And the result: it was great!

Any time I can find a way to pack something productive into pumping time it makes me happy. Here’s what I did:

- Half my trip was on streets and half on the highway. Feeling bold but not shameless, the risk of being seen seemed less on the highway than on the streets. So I stopped mid-way and hooked up in the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant near the highway entrance. I bet those security videos will be interesting to watch!

- I used my pump’s battery power option (glad to finally get some use out of the 8 AAs I’ve been carrying around!). It also has a car power adapter, but I haven’t bought that.

- Although my shirt was doing a pretty good job of covering up the business end of the pump, I threw a towel over myself too. It was the towel previously used to keep dog hair off the car seat…so, better planning next time.

After nervously stopping next to a tall truck at the first stop light, my pounding heart subsided, I refocused on the radio, and milk flowed. I got to my destination, sat in the car 10 more minutes, cleaned up and re-stowed everything, and off to my meeting. Next time I might even try this in town. The towel covers everything and I felt pretty comfortable.
