Why I Breastfeed

I was talking with my brother-in-law the other day about why it's important to him that his babies are breastfed. (Did I mention I come from a well-informed family?) And I realized that although we all have the same set of macro reasons that drive us, we prioritize them differently. So, inspired by a similar list in The Milk Memos, here's a list of what I love about breastfeeding.

  • An emotional connection
  • Short-term health benefits to Aaron (he hasn't been sick yet!)
  • An activity to "do" with Aaron. How many funny faces and goofy sounds can I make in a day?
  • Knowing he's getting perfect nutrition, all the time
  • Long-term health benefits to Aaron
  • Knowing I've got the goods that will calm him when all else fails
  • The food's always ready, wherever I am. No prep, no cleanup, no need to think ahead.
  • Health benefits to me
